The Unbearable Whiteness of Post-Soviet Immigration

Dr. Claudia Sadowski-Smith, author of “New Immigrant Whiteness: Race, Neoliberalism, and Post-Soviet Whiteness in the United States,” (New York U. Press, 2018) will discuss the distinct cultural politics of this cohort of immigrants to the United States.

Dr. Smith is a Professor of English at Arizona State University where she specializes in late 20th and 21st century multiethnic U.S. literatures, immigration studies, border studies, and fiction of the U.S. Southwest. She has published on topics such as comparative immigration studies, transnational adoption, studies of the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders, and the internationalization of U.S. American studies. She holds a PhD from the University of Delaware.
