A Feminist Matricentric Approach to the Study of Mothers and Mothering in the Pali Canon

Spring 2020 of the Religious Studies program. Presented by Dr. Pascal Engelmajer, associate professor of religious studies at Carroll University. Dr. Englemajer’s field of study specializes in women and Buddhism, gender in Pali narratives; material culture in Buddhism; food giving and Buddhism; Thai Buddhism; material culture and religion; food and religion; and gender and religion. Her lecture will focus on three female characters whose paths as mothers and followers of the Buddha constitute a deliberate soteriological path.
