Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UW-Milwaukee\u2019s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies invites applications for an educator fellowship during the 2026-27 academic year. <strong>To be eligible<\/strong> for this fellowship, you must be a K-12 educator teaching in Wisconsin during the 2026-27 academic year. We welcome applications from educators in a variety of roles, including classroom teachers, district and regional coordinators, and other staff working on K-12 curriculum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The fellowship program <\/strong>centers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/global-citizenship-peace-education\/need-know\">global citizenship<\/a> in K-12 education as an entry point to teaching civics, career skills, and broadening career knowledge among WI students. Fellows will participate in cohort-based programming to support teacher development of shareable curriculum that pairs classroom learning about pressing global issues (e.g. migration, climate, food and water security, democracy) with local student action and learning about the career opportunities connected to solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"alignleft uwm-c-img--left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/latin-american-caribbean-studies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/329\/2026\/08\/26-27-Global-Citizenship-flyer-300x300.png\" alt=\"Flyer for the fellowship program.\" class=\"wp-image-13137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/latin-american-caribbean-studies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/329\/2026\/08\/26-27-Global-Citizenship-flyer-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/uwm.edu\/latin-american-caribbean-studies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/329\/2026\/08\/26-27-Global-Citizenship-flyer-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/uwm.edu\/latin-american-caribbean-studies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/329\/2026\/08\/26-27-Global-Citizenship-flyer.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fellowship activities include <\/strong>an in-person kickoff meeting at UW-Milwaukee on Saturday October 10 (travel stipends available), a fall webinar training on Saturday November 14, an additional spring webinar (date TBD), and a final virtual showcase event to share the curriculum developed during the fellowship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional commitments include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Participants will be matched to an educator mentor experienced in global education to support development of the curriculum project throughout the academic year;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participants will receive a modest stipend as compensation for their participation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participants agree to pilot one of their fellowship ideas during spring 2027, and to implement their chosen project during academic year 2027-28;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participants agree to share their completed curriculum resources for publication in an open online repository for other educators to use;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participants may opt into additional opportunities during the fellowship year, e.g. being paired with a classroom in another country working on a similar global topic\/ local project; connecting your classroom to a virtual panel discussion featuring international changemakers speaking on related topics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We aim for participants\u2019 curriculum to <strong>support their students\u2019 growth in both career and civic learning. <\/strong>For careers, learning about global issues provides a context in which students learn how classroom study builds the skills needed to intervene in solutions. For civics, students connect global topics to local issues and deliver a project for local change, building community connections while reinforcing general career skills and empowering students as change agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To apply for this opportunity, complete the application below. <\/strong>Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis following the original application deadline Sunday, September 13 at 11:59pm CT.\u00a0All applicants will be notified of their acceptance or non-acceptance after the September 13 deadline.
