Professor Presents at Society for Intra-American Psychology Conference in Colombia

This summer, UWM professor and former CLACS Fellow Gabriela Nagy (Psychological & Brain Sciences) traveled to Santa Marta, Colombia to share her research at the Intra-American Psychology Conference and conduct fieldwork. Professor Nagy presented part of her book manuscript, a project developed during her 2025-26 CLACS Fellows work on acculturative stress and resilience factors in immigrants from Latin America.

Professor Nagy shared this about her time in Colombia:

Thanks to the support of CLACS, I had the opportunity to travel to Colombia for a research conference and fieldwork related to my book project on migration in Latin America. While attending the Society for Intra-American Psychology Conference in Santa Marta, I presented excerpts from my book project and connected with psychologists and researchers from across Latin America, fostering new collaborations around immigrant mental health and health equity.

A capybara sighting is always a treat.

Beyond the conference, I traveled through Bogotá and Villavicencio to better understand the diverse geographic and sociocultural contexts that shape migration experiences in Colombia. These firsthand experiences have enriched my scholarship and will directly inform both my book project and future research on migration and mental health.
