CLACS Receives K-12 Teacher Training Grant for AY2026-27

We at the UWM Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies are delighted to be recipients of a grant award from the Longview Foundation for the upcoming academic year. The Longview Foundation’s mission is to build a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world by equipping youth with a global perspective and understanding of political, social, and environmental issues worldwide.

The funded project, entitled “Global Citizenship for Career Readiness in Wisconsin,” centers global citizenship in K-12 education as an entry point to teaching civics, career skills, and broadening career knowledge among WI students. Programs will support Wisconsin teachers in developing shareable curriculum that pairs classroom learning about pressing global issues (e.g. migration, climate, food and water security, democracy) with local student action.

This grant allows CLACS to continue meaningful work in two areas of our mission: supporting teaching and public engagement about Latin America and the Caribbean.

Teachers, stay tuned for an application announcement for our 2026-27 program cohort!
