Bake Sale in support of Haitian community devastated after Hurricane Matthew

THURSDAY OCT 20: 12:30-2pm — UWM Student Union Atrium
BAKE SALE
to SUPPORT HAITIAN COMMUNITY DEVASTATED BY HURRICANE MATTHEW
(NOTE CHANGE IN STARTING TIME)
The Department of French, Italian, and Comparative Literature (FICL) and the students’ French club; the Center for International Education; and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies are holding a bake sale to support the community of Duchity in Haiti after the destructive passage of Hurricane Matthew.
Over the past 10 years, FICL has partnered with the Milwaukee-initiated organization Youthaiti to raise funds to help develop the community’s ecological sanitation programs that promote 3 styles of composting toilets, organic gardens utilizing the recycled waste, community hygiene education to combat cholera, and  re-forestation.
After the devastation caused to South West Haiti by the passage of Hurricane Matthew, Youthaiti is mobilizing resources to get water treatment, sanitation, and help with rebuilding of homes to Duchity. The eye of Hurricane Matthew passed through the village and destroyed the season’s crops which were about to be harvested, as well as every home with a tin roof, leaving most of the 7000 people homeless. Duchity remains with impassable roads and therefore no access to food or clean water.
Please consider contributing baked goods and come to support the bake sale:
Thursday Oct 20, 12:30-2pm in the Student Union Atrium.

All donations and matching contributions greatly appreciated.

The Table française (informal French conversation) will be held at the bake sale instead of its usual location in Curtin 766.
