With a love for cultural and language learning, Linsey Keyes knew she wanted to minor in Spanish and major in International Studies since she was a senior in high school. Now, as her undergraduate career comes to a close, she has the opportunity to put her learning into practice!
Linsey is so excited to spend her final semester as a Panther in Costa Rica for an internship at UPEACE, which is a university created by the United Nations that focuses on peace building. She is also the first recipient of the new International Internship Grant Award, which provides up to $2,000 in funding for International Studies and Global Studies majors participating in a credit-bearing internship abroad.
As part of her internship, Linsey will assist with duties, including field research, financial administration, data management, student recruitment, and event coordination, such as UPEACE’s annual Gross Global Happiness Summit in March.
With experience organizing community events in Milwaukee, such as the Holiday Folk Fair, this internship is a perfect fit for her. This experience and others have influenced her learning of different cultures. Her proficiency in Spanish has also allowed her to engage in cross-cultural learning and she looks forward to the opportunity to utilize and strengthen her Spanish during her internship.
Tune into UWM’s Panther Tracks to hear from Linsey about her internship. Podcast Intern Grace Pagel will also check in with her periodically throughout this semester to see how things are going during this life-changing journey!
Congrats, Linsey, on your award. We hope you’re having an amazing time abroad!
