NRC Global Research Fellows Program

Overview

UWM’s Center for International Education (CIE), a Title VI National Resource Center (NRC) as designated by the U.S. Department of Education, is supporting the NRC Global Research Fellows Program (GFR) for the 2022-2026 grant cycle.

The GRF is designed to support global research at UWM. Global research has been a strong feature of the profile of UWM faculty, despite busy teaching and advising schedules and funding issues that can make travel and field research abroad especially challenging.

Award Details & Responsibilities

Call for Proposals | Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 Fellowships

Faculty and teaching academic staff of all ranks are invited to submit their 3-5 page proposals describing their specific research plans for the funding period (Fall 2024 through Spring 2025). The selection committee will consider proposals from faculty and instructors across the university whose research is global in nature. The successful candidates will receive a reduction of one course for one semester so as to advance research on topics related to globalization, including its cultural, political, social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Global Research Fellows may also be asked to teach a Global Studies course in the future.

Recipients of this will acknowledge this funding support in articles and books that result from the research and will make a public presentation at the end of their fellowship. Faculty from local community colleges and minority-serving institutions will receive a special invitation to these presentation events.

Recipients will also be responsible for reporting on the impact of their NRC-funded project after the award period. The grant’s evaluation team, Socially Responsible Evaluation in Education (SREed), will administer the survey and can assist with any technical questions. For questions or concerns about NRC activity reporting requirements, please contact the NRC Grant Manager, Rachel Hegland, at cie-nrc@uwm.edu.
