In July, Institute of World Affairs (IWA) Program Manager Nicole Palasz had the opportunity to join practitioners from forty countries at the Caux Inner Development Goals (IDG) Forum. The Forum was organized by Initiatives of Change International in partnership with the Inner Development Goals Foundation.
The IDG framework was developed to support the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals.
The Inner Development Goals support individuals and organizations in fostering the skills needed to address the many significant global challenges facing communities around the world. The framework dimensions consist of being, thinking, relating, collaborating, and acting. Inner skills include self-awareness, critical thinking, empathy, inclusive mindsets, and courage.
Through workshops, community-building and reflection activities, the Caux IDG Forum explored the intersection between the IDGs and four of the Sustainable Development Goals:
- Climate Action (SDG 13)
- Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17)
- Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16)
- Zero Hunger (SDG 2)
With a diverse group of participants who approach global change from different sectors and perspectives, the Forum also provided an opportunity for rich dialogue and the development of innovative new partnerships.

IWA will be building upon the connections and knowledge from the Caux Forum to enhance global-to-local civic engagement initiatives for educators and youth during the upcoming school year.
