Faculty involvement in student organizations enhances learning beyond the classroom. Tom Shi, assistant professor of civil engineering, and Yang Li, research associate at IPIT, recently partnered with UWM’s Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) student chapter to lead a tour of TAPCO (Traffic and Parking Control Co., Inc.) for about 20 CEAS students.
TAPCO, a leader in roadway safety solutions, provided students with hands-on exposure to cutting-edge traffic control technologies. The visit also connected students with industry professionals who discussed transportation challenges and career opportunities.
“Experiences like this enrich academic learning and spark career interests,” said Professor Shi, encouraging faculty to engage with student organizations.
