Welcome to the Teaching Today’s Students for Tomorrow’s America (TTSTA) Project Clinical Learning Module:

INTERPROFESSIONAL COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE (IPCP) COMPETENCIES

Background In the TTSTSA Project, two academic health institutions collaborated in 2016-2017 to develop, implement and evaluate the asynchronous, online clinical learning module to prepare current and future HCP’s to better perform in IPCP environments. Strategies to decrease health disparities and lower health costs for vulnerable populations include increasing access to culturally responsive care through IPCP. “Collaborative practice in health-care occurs when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds provide comprehensive services by working with patients, their families, carers and communities to deliver the highest quality of care across settings” (WHO, 2010). The Interprofessional Education Collaborative defined four IPCP competencies for healthcare providers which are the focus of this Module.

Despite health accreditation rapidly expanding to include interprofessional education (IPE), aligning academic calendars across institutions for interprofessional collaborative trainings is challenging. In the TTSTA project, two academic health institutions collaborated in 2016-2017 to develop, implement and evaluate this asynchronous, online clinical learning module to prepare current and future HCPs to better perform in IPCP environements.

The Module The interactive training slides can be completed in about 45 minutes. Further time can be spent exploring its multiple resource links or in interprofessional discussions about the content. A Reflection Question is included at the end of the slides for discussion.

Thank you for your interest in our interprofessional collaborative practice education efforts,
