Speaking out Against Hate

On May 6, a UW – Milwaukee student held up a sign bearing a red swastika – symbol of Nazi Germany – for several hours near a group of students celebrating Israeli Independence Day on the UWM campus.  The UWM Intensive English Program rejects in the strongest possible terms the hateful and violent message conveyed by this sign.  No supposedly benign intent or technical legality can excuse conjuring the atrocities committed and hateful views espoused by those who created and have followed this symbol.  The Intensive English Program and its staff strongly endorse this message from the Sam and Helen Stahl Center for Jewish Studies, and assert with a clear and resolute voice that hate has no home on the UWM campus.
