Lois completed her Ph.D. in Information and Library Science at Indiana University. While at IU she built an international reputation as a scholar of adolescent internet use, social digital science, and digital ethics. Her current research projects focus on digital ethics, intellectual freedom, and social media policy and use in libraries.
Her teaching experience is wide-ranging and includes courses at major research universities, private institutions, and community colleges. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate students in digital technology, information science, informatics, library science, and business. She has taught communication, and public administration courses, as well.
