Research Brown Bag Series: Professional Principles and Ethical Entanglements: Libraries and Archives in the Trump Era
Wednesday, March 25, 2020
12:45 – 1:45 PM

By: Bradley J. Wiles
PhD Student, UW-Milwaukee, School of Information Studies
Since the 2016 election, the weaponization of fake news claims, the regular deployment of alternative facts, and constant wrangling over information and records disclosure have accompanied nearly all aspects of the Trump Administration’s attempts at governing. Norms of presidential behavior and civil discourse are violated on a weekly basis, with frequent attacks on the ideas and institutions that support constitutional democracy. In response, many in the LIS field are examining how to proceed in ways consistent with longstanding professional values, and to help ensure that the present reality does not become the permanent normal. In this Brown Bag Research session SOIS PhD student Brad Wiles discusses three current research projects examining the professional and ethical implications of Trump-era policies and politics for librarians and archivists.
