{"id":4339,"date":"2021-01-26T12:49:52","date_gmt":"2021-01-26T18:49:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/information-technology\/?page_id=4339"},"modified":"2026-04-20T14:02:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T19:02:02","slug":"it-procurement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/information-technology\/it-procurement\/","title":{"rendered":"IT Procurement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"uwm-l-row\">\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-types-of-purchases\">Types of Purchases<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All IT purchases are considered a commodity purchase or a project purchase:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Commodity<\/strong> purchases include software and hardware that is commonly-used on campus such as Apple\/Windows desktops and laptops, tablets, monitors, keyboards, mice, docking stations, personal productivity software, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Project<\/strong> purchases include software and hardware that is for a specialized departmental, research or work group usage. Typically these are one-time purchases to fill a specific need.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-making-a-commodity-purchase\">Making a Commodity Purchase<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To make a <strong>commodity purchase<\/strong>, you may do so with your department&#8217;s approval through the following methods:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.uwm.edu\/42102\">Windows Software Center<\/a>: Access from the Windows Start Menu on University-owned Windows devices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.uwm.edu\/105365\">Apple Software<\/a>: Self-service app on University-managed Apple desktops and laptops.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/information-technology\/purchase-request\/\">Purchase Request Form<\/a>: Purchase laptops, desktops and tablets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-making-a-project-purchase\">Making a Project Purchase<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your IT purchase falls into the <strong>project category<\/strong>, you will need to use the Purchase Request Form to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fill out the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/information-technology\/purchase-request\/\">Purchase Request Form<\/a> and choose the <strong>Other, or ask a question<\/strong> option under the <strong>I would like to purchase&#8230;<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The request is then reviewed by a team of purchasing, information security and IT specialists.
