Humor and Quiet Resistance: The Graphic Work of
\nWilhlem Hopfner examines the tumultuous period
\nof German history between 1918 and 1940 through
\nthe lens of one quiet, reserved artist’s prints.
\nThough called “the morning star of the etch\u00ading
\nneedle” by some German scholars, Hopfner is
\nvirtually unknown in the United States. An intriguing
\nsynthesis of Surrealism and New Objectivity,
\nthe prints on display capture the artist’s attempt to
\nnavigate the cultural, social, and political climate
\nof the Weimar Period and early years of the Third
