Two of the college’s students were honored with Senior Excellence in Research Awards. They are Diana Sophia Rivera, an occupational studies major with psychology and pre-law minors, and Rebecca Willer, a communication sciences and disorders major. They will each receive with $5,000 in support for their final undergrad year.
Rivera is interested in access to health care, and is researching health systems around the world, working with a data set that included 200,000 people in 40 countries. Willer’s research looked at the impact of service learning programs on undergraduate students working with older adults in care communities in the Milwaukee area.
More than 1,000 undergrads are involved in research each year, and half of graduating seniors have research experience. UWM is now nationally recognized for its undergraduate research, and was awarded the 2018 Campus-Wide Award for Undergraduate Research Accomplishments.
