Biomedical Sciences students do well in state competition

A large contingent of students from the medical laboratory science, public health microbiology and biomedical science programs, along with several BMS academic staff, attended the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science-Wisconsin (ASCLS-WI) convention, held in Appleton last month.

UWM students did well in the poster competition. First Place MLS Case Study: Max DeCamp, Daniel Schroeder and Jason Grunewald with “Abnormal Strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa: A Mimic of Escherichia coli Colony Morphology.” First Place MLS Literature Review: Mileva Gaji, Ariana Stessl and Jessica Spitzer with “Treatment of Hairy Cell Leukemia: Past, Present, and Future.” Second place MLS Literature Review: Brenda Andrade and Jolie Vue with “Use of the Bacille Clamette-Guerin (BCG) Vaccine Internationally Compared to the U.S.”

And the UWM team, “Lysis to Kill,” participated in the ever-popular Student Bowl Competition and made it to the semifinal round.
