“Hidden youth in health research: Identifying needs and developing community-engaged interventions.”
Dr. Kavanaugh’s translational research has informed national young caregiving programs, services, and educational materials for young caregivers and their families. She has received grants from the National Institutes for Health (NIH), CTSI, ALS Association, and the Administration on Community Living (ACL) to study caregiving youth, and develop community led interventions in underserved populations across the U.S. and South Africa. Additionally, Dr. Kavanaugh co-led a Milwaukee county-wide project assessing fatal opioid overdoses and is currently working with public school systems and hospitals in Wisconsin to assess the needs of children and develop support interventions for children and families affected by opioids.
