Urban studies alum is new San Antonio director of economic development

Brenda Hicks-Sorensen (UWM MS, Urban Studies—2001).

Following a nationwide search that began in March, Brenda Hicks-Sorensen became San Antonio’s first director of the Economic Development Department July 26, leading a 35-member staff.

As assistant economic development director for the city of Fort Worth, she developed the first comprehensive economic development strategic plan and established a CARES Act-funded program called Preserve the Fort, which provided $54.9 million in grant funds to small businesses.

Previously, Hicks-Sorensen served as vice president of economic and community development at the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and as president of the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation.
