Simonetta Milli Konewko Contributes to the U.S. Celebration of Grazia Deledda

Liberty meets Italian Grace

On November 30-December 1, 2022, the Instituto Italiana di Cultura in New York and the Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimò at New York University hosted a two-day conference called Liberty Meets Italian Grace: Conversations Around the Timeless Work of Grazia Deledda, a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Grazia Deledda, the first and thus far only Italian woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature (in 1926). The work of Simonetta Milli Konewko, Associate Professor of Italian, was featured twice at the conference: Delissa Reynolds read an excerpt from Dr. Milli Konewko’s translation from the Italian of Around the Dinner Table with Grazia: Food and Cooking in the Work of Grazia Deledda by Neria De Giovanni (access the UWM Digital Commons website here), and then Dr. Milli Konewko gave a paper entitled “Knowledge Crisis Resolution: Grazia Deledda, a well-rounded experience.”
