Jan Serr Studio Opens for Milwaukee Film Festival
The Jan Serr Studio is a 10,000-square-foot arts, performance, and event space on the sixth floor of UWM’s Kenilworth Square East building. The space hosted its first official programming during the Milwaukee Film Festival.
The studio is named for Peck School of the Arts alumna Jan Serr ’66, ’68. In 2016, she and her husband, John Shannon, gave a lead gift of $1 million to renovate the space. Jan is an artist known for oil painting, monotype, and photography. John is founder and general partner of Caledonia Properties, and he chairs the Peck School of the Arts campaign cabinet.
Their gift supports UWM’s comprehensive fundraising effort, Made in Milwaukee, Shaping the World: The Campaign for UWM. Focused on raising support for students, research and community engagement, the campaign is the largest in UWM’s history.
