Thousands have lost jobs due to COVID-19, making it difficult if not impossible for them to pay rent, buy food and stay in school. The Chancellor’s Student Success Fund will provide a wide range of emergency financial assistance, including scholarships to keep students on the path to success. Please consider a gift to help UWM’s students in crisis

Our Campaign Priorities:

    Student Success

THIS IS WHY: Scholarships allow us to attract promising students from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Today’s teachers are required to pursue graduate education, and graduate fellowships help defray the cost of their continued education. The dean’s unrestricted funds allow us to address challenges and opportunities as they arise.

    Research Excellence

THIS IS WHY: Our research projects have helped UWM create new models for teacher education and professional development that have become nationally recognized templates for innovation. We offer Wisconsin’s only doctoral program in urban education, and an endowed chair in urban education would reinforce the school’s focus on urban education as a pillar of our mission. Support for technology and innovation would allow us to expand our use of simulated classrooms, giving students more virtual experience so they are more effective in the classroom.

    Community Engagement

THIS IS WHY: Our Office for Clinical Experience arranges more than 1,400 placements each year, providing students with hands-on experiences at schools. The 5-in-1 Collaborative is a UWM-led partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools, Schools That Can Milwaukee, City Year Milwaukee, Teach for America-Milwaukee, and Northwestern Mutual that focuses on improving academic outcomes at Dr. George Washington Carver Academy of Mathematics and Science. Support for our research-practice partnerships allows our students and faculty to work directly with teachers to conduct research that supports planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs; informs district policies; and promotes reform.

It is an honor and privilege to be part of this campaign. Funds raised will support student scholarships and retention, faculty research, innovative learning programs, and technological endeavors. I am pleased to support Dean Shoho in his efforts to keep Wisconsin's largest teacher preparation university in the forefront for the 21st century.
