My research interest includes looking at subglacial volcanic deposits to get estimated ice thicknesses and eruption styles. Specifically, I am looking at subglacial volcanic deposits at the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii. Major element and volatile content can be measured, using X-Ray Fluorescence, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and electron microprobe analysis, in rocks/glass to calculate saturation pressures to provide constraints on ice thickness and style of eruption.
