Introduction to Geophysics Field Trip

In October, students from the Introduction to Geophysics class visited Havenwoods State Forest to conduct a survey over an abandoned cold-war era missile site that is now part of the state park.  Havenwoods has had many lives, including serving as a farm, a House of Correction, a WWII-era internment and prisoner-ofwar camp, and finally a military training and anti-aircraft missile base.  The site was closed in 1963, and in 1980 the site was turned into a state park.  UWM Geoscience students used techniques that measure magnetic and electrical properties of the subsurface to map out the locations of the three missile launch sites.
