{"id":2483,"date":"2018-06-12T11:51:31","date_gmt":"2018-06-12T16:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/geography\/?p=2483"},"modified":"2018-06-12T11:51:31","modified_gmt":"2018-06-12T16:51:31","slug":"uwm-geographers-co-organize-panel-on-muslim-arts-and-belonging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/geography\/uwm-geographers-co-organize-panel-on-muslim-arts-and-belonging\/","title":{"rendered":"UWM geographers co-organize panel on &#8220;Muslim Arts and Belonging&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Muslim Arts and Belonging&#8221; was organized by three UWM professors &#8211;<strong> Anna Mansson McGinty<\/strong> (Women\u2019s and Gender Studies and Geography); <strong>Caroline Seymour-Jorn<\/strong> (Comparative Literature); and <strong>Kristin Sziarto<\/strong> (Geography) &#8211; in collaboration with <strong>Professor Enaya Othman <\/strong>of Marquette University (Arabic). The event aimed to open up an important discussion about the diversity of Muslim experiences and voices in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n<p>A few main questions for the panelists were: How do you see your role as a Muslim artist? How does your art, broadly defined, reflect your Muslim identity? And, in which ways does art express certain memories and sense of belonging (or not belonging)?
