Eye-catching project puts Milwaukee Harbor on the map, literally

It takes a village to map a giant “fish tank.”

Working closely with other members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee family and additional organizations, School of Freshwater Sciences students and faculty members have created stunning maps which reveal, for the first time, the extensive fish habitats hidden beneath the surface of Milwaukee Harbor and other local waterways.

The maps will play a crucial role in protecting the scores of species that call these waters home, and in guiding future projects. With the Milwaukee phase now complete, look for members of the team to create similar maps of other harbors on Lake Michigan’s edge. Read more about the project at UWM Report and Milwaukee Magazine.
