SUMMARY:Freshwater Colloquium: Bringing a National Estuarine Research Reserve  to the Green Bay Estuary
DESCRIPTION:Join Emily Tyner\, Director of Freshwater Strategy at UW-Green Bay\, to learn about the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERR) and the process of bringing a new reserve to Lake Michigan. The NERR is a national network of 30 sites across the coastal U.S.\, including the Great Lakes\, designed to protect and study estuaries and their coastal wetlands. With funding and guidance from the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration\, the Green Bay NERR will bring additional research\, education\, stewardship and training opportunities to Green Bay and Lake Michigan. Hear about what it takes to designate a NERR\, the research and outreach vision for the future reserve\, and opportunities for collaboration.  \nEmily Tyner is the Director of Freshwater Strategy at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay\, a position she has held since 2020. In this role Emily manages both on-campus and community programs around freshwater and Great Lakes outreach\, and is the state lead on the designation of the Green Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Before her current role Emily spent five field seasons as a biological technician at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore as part of her graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\, and as a Fulbright US Student Fellow conducting research on the nearshore waters of Lake Malawi\, Africa. \nThe School of Freshwater Sciences’ Freshwater Colloquium creates a platform for students\, faculty and scientists to discuss their research and emergent issues related to freshwater resources. Presentations are open to the public. \nAll events will take place on Mondays from 3:30-4:20 p.m. in-person in the GLRF Ballroom. \nThe School of Freshwater Sciences Great Lakes Research Facility\, is located at 600 E.
