Undergraduate Water Research Symposium
August 16 @ 1:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Students from Gateway, Waukesha County, and Milwaukee Area Technical Colleges, and UWM SFS will present outcomes of summer Water Technology experiences hosted by Aguilar-Cuhel with NSF sponsorship.
Undergraduate Research in University-Water Technology Industry collaborations will be the highlight of the National Science Foundation – Business Higher Education Forum Undergraduate Student Symposium hosted by Scientists Carmen Aguilar and Russell Cuhel on Friday August 16, 2019 at the School of Freshwater Sciences. Afternoon poster presentations with short “elevator talks” will be presented at 2PM by Gateway, Waukesha County, and Milwaukee Area Technical College and UWM undergraduate students. Representatives from corporate partners will be attending as well. A summary of the 5-year program will be presented by the hosts. Free parking at the East end of Greenfield Avenue.
Participants of the Water SYS-STEM (See Yourself Succeeding in STEM) program spent two paid full-time weeks at SFS with expeditionary team leaders and Scientists Drs. Aguilar and Cuhel, bracketing an 8-9 week paid internship at start-up through International MegaCorporation partners in Water Technology. Integrating broad perspective experiential activities with deeply hands-on industry work experience, students could develop useful perspectives on future education and employment opportunities. Each participant will discuss a poster of their experience “at the easel” and additionally give a brief “elevator talk” from the podium. Hors d’oeuvres will be served.
