Freshwater Colloquium: Selective Breeding in Aquaculture

Brian Peterson will present “A Selective Breeding Program at the National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center and Future Trends” as part of the School of Freshwater Sciences spring colloquium. The theme of this semester’s colloquium is Trends in Aquaculture: Meeting the Challenge of Feeding a Changing World.

Peterson is a research leader at the National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center, USDA Agricultural Research Service. The Center conducts research that will solve problems limiting production efficiency of coldwater marine aquaculture. The current primary research focus is genetic improvement using an applied selective breeding program to increase efficiency and sustainability of Atlantic salmon culture.
