All students and parents borrowing for the first time must complete a master promissory note (MPN) before loan funds can disburse. A master promissory note is completed online and can be used to make multiple disbursements for up to ten years. By signing the MPN, you agree to repay the loan under the terms of the program.

  • Complete the PLUS Application online.
    • The parent borrower should log in.
    • A Parent PLUS loan must be requested each academic year or semester if you choose not to apply for the full year. You are strongly encouraged to apply for the entire academic year.

    • Select I’m a Parent of an Undergraduate Student login to Start. Enter the required information. Be sure to provide student information under the student section and parent information under the borrower information section.

During the application process, you will be asked to indicate how much you intend to borrow. If you indicate an unknown amount, the loan will be processed for the maximum amount. The maximum amount will be the difference between the student’s Estimated Cost of Attendance and any aid they are receiving.

A PLUS MPN for a loan without an endorser is valid for up to 10 years from the original signature date. When an endorser is needed, a borrower must complete a new PLUS MPN for each loan.  In addition, the endorser needs to complete an addendum. They will need an FSA ID Username to complete the Addendum electronically.  Otherwise, they can Print Endorser Addendum.

To confirm the PLUS application and MPN have been completed, review your dashboard on studentaid.gov.  Select the View Your Documents Resource. You must be logged into the site to see your dashboard.
