Robert J. Beck, Ph.D. began his current role in January 2014. As CIO, Bob oversees broad campus technology initiatives and provides high-level direction for the entire institution and the University Information Technology Services (UITS) division. He previously served as the College of Letters and Science’s CIO (2003-14) and as Director of Academic Technology for UWM’s Center for International Education (2000-11).

Prior to his arrival at UWM in 2000, Bob directed Tufts University’s Center for Teaching Excellence (1998-2000) and taught for eight years in the University of Virginia’s Department of Government & Foreign Affairs. He received the 2012 UWM Faculty Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award largely due to his reputation for applying the latest classroom technology with a dedicated personal approach to teaching. Bob graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Marquette University's Honors Program with a triple major in Political Science, History, and Latin, and earned a doctorate in International Relations, with distinction, from Georgetown University.
