That means that the BugLady is out on the trails, walking slowly, looking at everything and photographing half of it. A probably-tasteful BOTW will be delivered to your inbox each Tuesday in June, but it won\u2019t be a newly-minted, original episode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also June \u2013 National Invasive Species Action Month!\u00a0 \u201cAlien,\u201d \u201cIntroduced,\u201d \u201cExotic,\u201d and \u201cNon-native\u201d are all words we use to describe species that aren\u2019t from around here, like alfalfa and Golden retrievers, but those words are\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0synonymous with the word Invasive. Having left their predators in the Old Country, invasive species achieve populations that negatively affect their habitat and native species. Not all invasive species are from another continent \u2013 Rusty crayfish, invasive in Wisconsin, hail from the southeastern part of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, from the BugLady\u2019s massive \u201cBugs in the News\u201d file is an article about an invasive hornet that is NOT the Asian giant\/Murder hornet (which has been given the new, less offensive name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/smart-news\/invasive-yellow-legged-hornet-spotted-in-the-us-for-the-first-time-180982750\/?utm_source=smithsoniandaily&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=editorial&amp;spMailingID=48657538&amp;spUserID=ODg4Mzc3MzY0MTUyS0&amp;spJobID=2522438973&amp;spReportId=MjUyMjQzODk3MwS2\">Northern giant hornet<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"alignleft uwm-c-img--left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/field-station\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/380\/2024\/06\/deer-tick13-11.webp\"><img href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianmag.com\/smart-news\/an-invasive-tick-that-can-clone-itself-is-spreading-across-us-threatening-livestock-180983323\/?utm_source=smithsoniandaily&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=editorial&amp;spMailingID=49123309&amp;spUserID=ODg4Mzc3MzY0MTUyS0&amp;spJobID=2582666542&amp;spReportId=MjU4MjY2NjU0MgS2\">invasive tick<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And speaking of ticks, the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/field-station\/bug-of-the-week\/deer-ticks-revisited\/\">BOTW about Deer ticks<\/a> is worth a reread, since the deer tick season has been in high gear here in God\u2019s Country for months. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"alignright uwm-c-img--right\"><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/field-station\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/380\/2024\/06\/deer-tick13-11.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/field-station\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/380\/2024\/06\/cabbage-wh20-7rz-150x150.webp\" alt=\"butterfly on a flower\" class=\"wp-image-14976\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Accompanying these articles are pictures of a Eurasian butterfly that we often forget is not native \u2013 the Cabbage Butterfly, which introduced itself into Canada 150 years ago and whose <a href=\"https:\/\/bugguide.net\/node\/view\/1733638\/bgimage\">caterpillar<\/a>\u00a0was, for a long time, called the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/field-station\/bug-of-the-week\/cabbage-whites-and-sulphurs-redux\/\">Imported Cabbageworm<\/a>\u201d (if you\u2019re a gardener, you probably know this one already<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/field-station\/bug-of-the-week\/cabbage-whites-and-sulphurs-redux\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"alignleft uwm-c-img--left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/field-station\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/380\/2024\/06\/deer-tick13-11.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/field-station\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/380\/2024\/06\/EAB19-3-150x150.webp\" alt=\"bug on a leaf\" class=\"wp-image-14977\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And a picture of a really beautiful little beetle that arrived in the Detroit area from China about 20 years ago and that has changed the landscape here in Wisconsin and in much of North America east of the Great Plains \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/field-station\/bug-of-the-week\/emerald-ash-borer-redux-family-buprestidae\/\">Emerald ash borer (EAB)<\/a>.\u00a0When it first appeared, the DNR predicted that it would demolish 99.9% of Wisconsin\u2019s ash trees.\u00a0Their flight period is about to start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And a Deer tick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all invasive species are insects \u2013 see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sewisc.org\">Southeast Wisconsin Invasive Species Consortium (SEWISC)<\/a> for information about invasives near you\u00a0(they\u2019d love a donation, too).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about the <a href=\"https:\/\/widnr.widen.net\/view\/pdf\/hpxkc6dtm9\/InvSp_RegionalCISMAList.pdf?t.download=true&amp;u=kkadwx\">organizations that are
