Howdy, Bugfans,<\/p>\n

The BugLady\u2019s \u201cBugs in the News<\/em>\u201d file is overflowing again, so it\u2019s time to share. Thanks, as always, to those who send links to interesting stuff. <\/p>\n

In the \u201cHow Do They Do That?<\/em>\u201d<\/strong> department, watch this video<\/a> for a redeeming aspect of earwig life (yes, redeeming; yes, earwig), and this one<\/a>, if you haven\u2019t used up your monthly quota of free NYT articles. <\/p>\n

In the \u201cAin\u2019t Nature Grand!<\/em>\u201d<\/strong> category, we have this article<\/a> about karate kicking cockroaches, this National Geographic article<\/a> with some great pictures of treehoppers, this<\/a> – from the sublime to the ridiculous, and a story about a unique method of finding a host<\/a>, from a blogger whose philosophy is, well, the BugLady couldn\u2019t have said it better herself. <\/p>\n

Back in 2017, the BugLady wrote an episode about Jumping worms<\/a>, which pose a huge threat to life as we know it. Here\u2019s a visual, a DNR video<\/a> that is so graphic that adult beverages may be required. Here\u2019s another pesky newcomer<\/a> to Wisconsin\u2019s; shores (watch Do Not Panic video).<\/p>\n

On a More Serious Note<\/em><\/strong>, a story of saving a beetle species<\/a> while negotiating the intricacies of the Endangered Species Act, and another in an increasing number of alarms about decreasing insect populations<\/a>. Why should we care, indeed! <\/p>\n

This mining bee, which is reminding us why they call them \u201cpollinators,\u201d is also reminding us to \u201cThink Spring!\u201d It was taken in late March of 2012, that bizarre year when spring arrived unexpectedly \u2013 in winter. <\/p>\n
