SUMMARY:EVENT CHANGED - FOCB Annual Winter Hike into the Heart of the Bog
DESCRIPTION:We will Snowshoe (Snowshoes required) in the Field Station Beechwoods State Natural Area at 1:30\, Sunday\, 2/4/2024\, as scheduled. \nThe Chili Dinner is postponed  (we will plan something for Spring). The bog is not frozen this year.  There is still snow-cover at the Saukville Field Station.  With temperatures above freezing on Sunday\, the trails will be unusable without snowshoes. If you have\, or can get\, snowshoes\, we can hike till our legs fall off.  We can see the backcountry of the Station.  There will be many opportunities to turn back for a shorter hike; we will leave a trail! \nRegistration Required – Parking is limited.  Sorry – Pets are not allowed. \n

DESCRIPTION:Note: Due to weather\, this event has been rescheduled to 02/17/2024. Join Mequon Nature Preserve’s Jamie Schiesel for an introductory lesson on the fascinating world of lichens! From the various forms they take to the substrates they choose.  Learn how to categorize and even ID lichens to species with the help of some household agents. Hike the Cedarburg Bog and spend some time in the lab learning about the organisms that coined the phrase symbiosis.

SUMMARY:FOCB Event - Winter Walk at the Bog
DESCRIPTION:Join DNR Wildlife Educator\, Liz Herzmann\, as we explore the sights\, sounds and signs at the Bog.  We’ll venture out searching for tracks\, scat and other signs of the active winter animals at the Bog.  Bring along your binoculars as we scour the area for resident winter birds as well.  Liz Herzmann has been the wildlife educator at Horicon Marsh for over 14 years.  She enjoys birding\, hunting\, kayaking\, hiking and gardening with her husband and two young children. Registration is required.
