SUMMARY:Winter Hike and Chili Potluck
DESCRIPTION:Winter Hike 1:30 – 4:30 PM \nWinter presents the opportunity to explore the interior of the Cedarburg Bog. Field Station Director\, Jim Reinartz will lead the annual hike into the heart of the Bog. This is a 4-mile hike\, and weather or snow and ice conditions can make this hike challenging.  In the past we have hiked in bitter cold\, on a warm day with wet slush over the ice\, in deep snow\, with no snow at all on very slick ice\, and when we were lucky\, with a little snow over solid ice. \nIce conditions as of 1/26/2018 \n\nConditions may change by Sunday\, 1/28. We still don’t know for sure where we will hike on Sunday\, and we won’t be sure until Sunday morning.  At this point we are still hopeful that we will be able to take our traditional long walk up into the Bog.\nWe will have a very nice hike planned even if we can’t take that route in the Bog.\nTo the extent that we do go into the Bog the ice will be safe\, but there may be some water over the ice\, so waterproof winter boots will be required.\nAll hikers must be willing to accept the risk of falling\, regardless of the hike.\n\nChili Dinner    4:30 PM \nYou don’t have to hike to join us for the chili potluck.  We will provide the chili and beverages; if you can\, bring a dish to share. \nSuggested donation for the Hike and Dinner is $5 \nPLEASE – NO PETS ALLOWED \nPre-registration is requested.  For directions or to register visit www.bogfriends.org (click on the Events tab)\, send an email to fieldstn@uwm.edu or call 262-675-6844.
