Winter Break Information for University Housing Residents
We are now less than two weeks away from the start of fall final exams, and University Housing staff are preparing for the end of semester process. In addition to the general end of semester notes below, you’ll also find instructions for students who may be staying with us over winter break, who will be leaving for winter break but returning in the spring, and for students who are moving out of University Housing permanently (most frequently because of graduations, internships, study abroad, or transfer to a different school).
For all students:
Make sure your windows are closed! In addition, if you have an adjustable thermostat for your suite, please make sure the heat stays on during winter break, regardless of whether any of your suitemates are staying here during the break.
Shuttle operations will change its hours of service beginning with Study Day (Dec. 15). Posters are up in community common areas that detail the schedule from Dec. 15 until Jan. 22.
24-Hour Quiet Hours begin at 10 p.m. on Dec. 14. Quiet hours extend through the end of finals (Dec. 23 at 12 p.m.).
For students who are staying for any part of winter break:
All University Housing buildings remain open throughout winter break, though some services will be limited during the break time. You may come and go as you please. Guests remain subject to the normal academic-year restrictions.
Maintenance and/or custodial crews will be doing work in EVERY suite during the winter break period. Do not be surprised if you see them on your floor. If you have any questions, contact your building’s Service Desk.
Dining service will be significantly restricted between Dec. 22 and Jan. 23. While Restor+ locations are open periodically throughout the break period, cafeterias and Palm Gardens, and some Grind Coffee Shops, are closed for the duration of the break.
For students who are leaving for winter break, to return for Spring Semester:
Pay attention to the poster that will be placed on your room door. It has instructions related to refrigerators, window blinds, and bathrooms. If you have a fish, please take it home with you!
For students who are permanently moving out of University Housing at Winter Break:
- Meet with University Housing Office Staff in Sandburg C100.
- Submit your termination paperwork (priority deadline is Dec. 6).
- Schedule a check out time with your RA within 24 hours of your last final exam (but no later than 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 23).
