Welcome Back to the Spring Semester: Check Out These Key Dates To Remember
The Panther Family Association is thrilled to welcome you and your student back for the spring semester. We hope your student had a great winter break, possibly enjoyed one of our Winterm classes and spent some time with you through the holiday season. It’s hard to imagine the springtime upon us with all the snow in Milwaukee, but keeping some of these important dates and deadlines in mind will hopefully speed the cold winter along.
For some students, dates and deadlines at UWM can be confusing. Below is a list of some of the most important ones to keep in mind for the Spring semester.
January 16: Spring 2016 Financial Aid Disbursement Begins – Students should check their PAWS (link to PAWS.uwm.edu) account to ensure they have accepted their financial aid. Students usually do not receive an actual check unless they have money left over after tuition and University Housing (if applicable) is paid.
January 25: First day of Classes and tuition and housing (if applicable) payments are due. Students are automatically placed on the installment payment plan if they do not pay their tuition in full.
January 29: Spring 2016 Deadline to Apply for Spring Graduation.
February 5: Spring 2016 Financial Aid Census date. The number of credits a student is enrolled in on this date is considered their attempted credits for the semester in the calculation of academic progress. All undergraduate students must complete 66.67% of their attempted credits to meet this standard. This is also the last day to add or change classes without penalty. Students should see their Academic Advisor before this day if possible with specific questions as lines are often long on February 5 with last minute questions.
February 19: Last Day to Drop a Course without a W on their transcript. If your student is thinking about dropping a class, they need to see their Academic Advisor. They should also see a Financial Aid Advisor if they are concerned about making academic progress which is necessary to maintain financial aid eligibility.
March 13-20: Spring Recess. The University is open but classes are not in session.
March 1: Priority Deadline for Filing 2016-17 Financial Aid. Students who complete their FAFSA (link to fafsa.gov) by this date have the best opportunity to maximize their aid package.
March 25: Last day to drop/withdraw from a class (with a W notation on transcript).
May 10: Last Day of Classes
May 12-20: Final Exams
May 22: Graduation
