UWM Community Urged To Sign Up For COVID-19 Notification Tool
All members of the UWM community are urged to sign up for an important new tool from the State of Wisconsin that will alert you when you may have been exposed to COVID-19.
The WI Exposure Notification app utilizes Bluetooth technology. Once a person activates the app, that person’s phone exchanges anonymous signals with other phones that are nearby for at least 15 minutes. When someone who has the app tests positive for COVID-19, other app users who were nearby are alerted that they may have been exposed. They can then get necessary testing and care.
The app, which the Wisconsin Department of Health Services activated Dec. 23, is an important new tool to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Nearly one million Wisconsinites activated the service in the first week. The more people who use the service, the more effective it can be in slowing COVID-19.
Android phone users can download the app from the Google Play store. IPhone users can activate the service on their phone – no download required – by going to settings and turning on exposure notifications for Wisconsin.
Users’ privacy is protected. The app does not store personal data.
