How To Talk About Involvement With New Students

Student Involvement is more than just student organizations.

  • Do not wait to get involved! Being involved in something (organization, programming, a job, leadership programs, etc.) is proven to increase retention and persistence to graduation. Plus, a great way to meet people and find your fit at UWM.
  • You can get involved in your first semester! Building involvement into your schedule first semester will improve your time management skills. Plus, honestly, what else would you be doing with your time?!
  • Don’t know where to start? Try the Bucket List or stop by Student Involvement. UWM Union 3rd floor, or 414-229-5780.

What Student Involvement Does

  • Arts & Culture: Studio Arts and Crafts Centre, Union Cinema, Union Art Gallery
  • Campus Activity Board: Events for students, planned by students
  • Large Campus Events & Traditions: Pantherfest, Geek Week, Earth Week, Distinguished Lecture Series, and so much more!
  • Sociocultural Programming: events and programs that increase awareness of diversity, social-justice, and urban issues
  • Student Association Professional Staff: Student Association is the student government at UWM and is advised out of Student Involvement
  • Student Leadership Programs: events, workshops, and programs to help you uncover your leadership style (yes, you are a leader!)
  • Student Organizations: join one (or more!} of the 300+ student organizations and clubs at UWM, including Fraternity and Sorority Life and Sports Clubs

The Three Things Every New Student Should Do

  1. Commit to doing ONE THING in your first month at UWM.
  2. Download the UWM App and regularly check the events calendar to see what’s happening on campus.
  3. Come to events during Fall Welcome and the Student Involvement Fair
