When is Family Weekend?

Family Weekend officially takes place Saturday, October 9th. Many families choose to visit their students for the entire weekend, October 8th – 10th. See Family Weekend Lodging Options.

Are all families welcome?

Yes! Many families make visiting their student during Family Weekend an annual tradition.

How does ticketing, registration, and scheduling work?

Each family will need a Family Weekend Pass to take advantage of all the great events and programs on-campus and around the City of Milwaukee on Saturday, Oct. 9. You will need a Family Weekend Pass to participate in both complimentary and ticketed events. Tickets can be purchased on the University Tickets website. Families get to choose their own schedule starting with their check-in time when purchasing the Family Weekend Pass.

Each Family Weekend pass comes with a complimentary swag item (1 per student), discounted campus parking, and more.

Do step families need to purchase multiple family passes?

1 pass for all parts of a family is fine unless you prefer to purchase tickets separately under different accounts. You need to have purchased the family pass in order to access the additional ticketed events. You will have to show your family pass to gain access to complimentary events on the schedule.

Each Family Weekend pass comes with a complimentary swag item (1 per student), discounted campus parking, and more. If you’d like multiple swag items, you can purchase an additional family pass.

Is there a registration deadline?

We strongly encourage families to pre-register for Family Weekend as soon as possible since many paid events will reach capacity well in advance of Family Weekend.

Early-bird registration will be live through Wednesday, September 15 with a discounted family pass at $15.

Please note, Family Weekend Pass costs will increase as we get closer to the event.

Early Bird Rate – Prior to September 15: $15
Pre-Registration – September 15-September 29: $20
September 30-October 9: $25

Pre-registration will close on Wednesday, September 29 leading up to the event in order to ensure all families packages are prepared. Families can register on the day of the event, however there is no guarantee for ticket availability at that time.

Do I include my student(s) or small children in my registration numbers?

Our general rule of thumb is if a person needs a seat at any event, they will also need a ticket. Students should absolutely be included in your registration numbers. If you have a small child that will sit on the lap of a family members at events, they will not need a ticket.

Can we attend without our student?

Yes. We know some families may have students with commitments throughout the day and may still want to attend events.

How do we make changes or update our families registration?

Adding tickets: If you’d like to purchase any additional tickets, you can do so by purchasing tickets the same way you originally purchased tickets. You must purchase additional event ticket under the same account that purchased the Family Pass in order to avoid being required to purchase a secondary pass in order to access the additional ticketed events. Panther Families will not refund patrons who purchase an additional family pass instead of using the original purchasing account.

Exchanges and Refunds: Please contact Alannah at panther-families@uwm.edu to exchange ticket times or to request a refund before September 30.

What are the COVID-19 related event details?

We completely support each family in making decisions that work best for their family when it comes to visiting students in Milwaukee or attending Family Weekend. We are monitoring circumstances and will continue to follow campus, local, state, and federal guidance as it relates to COVID-19 mitigation. If cancellation becomes necessary, all families will be refunded. All attendees will be required to follow City of Milwaukee and UW-Milwaukee COVID-19 guidelines in place at the time of Family Weekend.

As of September 7, you can expect the following for family weekend, but please note some of these things may be subject to change:
-masks are required indoors on campus
-check-in times are selected by each family when the family pass is purchased to de-densify the check-in process
-Family Weekend is cashless
-Several events have been moved outdoors
-The on campus lunch/dinner option is a build your own picnic that can be taken to eat wherever each family feels comfortable. Families are also encouraged to eat out in the City.
-The Milwaukee Tour is being run through City Tours MKE instead of 50-person coach buses.
-We are looking at options to move certain events virtual if we approach a point where we may have to limit or cancel in-person events.
-We also encourage all students and visitors to get vaccinated if they are able.

You agree to comply with all of the Event Organizer’s applicable rules, policies, terms, and conditions (“Event Organizer Rules”). The Event Organizer reserves the right, without refund of any amount paid, to refuse admission to, or eject, any person whose conduct management deems disorderly, who uses vulgar or abusive language, or who fails to comply with Event Organizer Rules including but not limited to those mitigating the risk of COVID-19. Breach of terms or rules will terminate your license to attend the event without refund. A ticket is a revocable license and admission may be refused. A ticket is not redeemable for cash.

  2. Under no circumstances shall UWM be in default of the terms of this Agreement or with respect to the performance of any of the terms, covenants, and conditions of this Agreement if the same is due to any strike, lockout, civil commotion, war, war-like operation, any acts of terrorism, vandalism, hostilities, martial law, inability to obtain any material or service (including but not limited to utility services), the disruption of utility service, fire or water damage, force majeure or any other cause beyond the control of UWM, including but not limited to, pandemics or other public health emergencies. In the event of such occurrence, this Agreement shall be terminated and Client shall be refunded any funds not already expended by UWM and Client hereby waives any claim for damages or any further compensation against UWM.
  3. Notwithstanding any other provisions of this Agreement to the contrary, the parties understand that there is inherent uncertainty involved in scheduling future events in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the changing status of national, state, local, UWM and UW System laws, regulations, rules, guidance and/or policies which may impact use of the Client Spaces (collectively, the “Applicable Rules”). The parties will endeavor to decide whether the Events and the use of Client Spaces will proceed by two weeks prior to each booking. Either party may terminate this Agreement with written notice to the other party on or prior to such dates without penalty.
What are the day of instructions for Family Weekend and check-in?

Start your day with check-in
Family Weekend events begin with check-in taking place in the Klotsche Center Lobby. Please arrive within 30 minutes of your selected check-in time. If your family has not pre-registered, you may arrive any time between 9am and 3pm.

At check-in, you will be able to pick-up your swag item, take advantage of complimentary coffee, tea, and water and ask any questions so you are prepared for your day.

Please keep in mind, your designated check-in time is a recommendation to help mitigate the volume of families checking in at the same time, not a rule. Arriving earlier or later than your designated check-in time may cause the check-in process to move more slowly, and we ask for your patience as we check families in as quickly as we are able.

Please allow for 1 hour to make it from parking on campus, to check-in, and then to your first scheduled activity.

Please Note: We cannot process refunds for any missed events. Check-in closes at 3:00pm. Any family arriving after this time will forfeit their ticket reservations and swag item.

UWM Food Center and Pantry Food Drive during Check-In
Please consider bringing non-perishable food items to check in where you can donate to students in need. Learn more about the UWM Food Center and Pantry.

Please note: other restaurant operations (Taco Bell, Burger King, City Subs, etc.) on the 1st floor of the Union will be closed, along with the Gasthaus, due to Union renovations.

Due to the Panther Prowl route street closures on N. Downer Ave. and E. Kenwood Blvd., traffic taking N. Lincoln Memorial Dr. along the Lakefront will be directed North onto N. Lake Dr.. Please follow N. Lake Dr. and turn left onto E. Edgewood Ave. until you reach Klotsche and Pavilion Parking.

Coming from South, or West of Campus (Ex: I-43 N or S, Downtown) :

We recommend taking Locust St. to N. Oakland Ave. From Locust St. turn North onto Oakland Ave.,Turn East on E. Edgewood Ave. to reach the Pavilion Parking garage due to Panther Prowl closures on parts of E. Hartford Ave., N. Maryland Ave.

Please be mindful of traffic directions as you approach parking. You must enter the Pavillion parking garage from Edgewood ave.

All day parking is $3. As you enter the Pavilion garage, take a ticket at the entrance gate. Before exiting for the day, take your ticket to one of the Pavilion garage pay stations to pay your $3 discounted rate (pay stations are located at each first floor Pavilion entrance). Then, proceed to your vehicle and use your ticket to exit the garage.

We discourage families from parking on the neighborhood streets surrounding the campus due to short time-restrictions, varying parking regulations, and strongly-enforced parking restrictions on the Eastside.

If arriving after Panther Prowl events (around 1pm), the UWM Student Union Parking Garage will be available, however check-in takes place in the Klotsche center lobby this year.

A map of campus is available here: http://webgis.uwm.edu/campusmap/map_color.pdf. Paper copies of campus maps will be available at check-in.

Attend as many or as few events as you like! Family Weekend is designed to appeal to a variety of interests, so we offer different options. Choose the events that fit your family and your schedule.

How does scheduling work for Family Weekend? Do we pick our time or is it assigned for us?

You pick and build your own schedule when you register.

There are so many events, how do we choose?

We’ve created a jam-packed event schedule for families to ensure the fun never stops during your time on campus and in the City of Milwaukee. Some families may choose to split up for events while others may want to attend events as a whole family. There is no one way to do Family Weekend.

Is there time for my family to participate in the Panther Prowl and attend all the Family Weekend paid events?

Yes! Many families choose to participate in the Prowl and head over to check-in to receive their registration materials in the Klotsche/Pavillion Lobby once they have completed the prowl.
