When is Family Weekend?

Family Weekend officially takes place Saturday, October 12. Many families choose to visit their students for the entire weekend.

Are all families welcome?

Yes!! Many families make visiting their student during Family Weekend an annual tradition.

If we don't want to attend the paid events, do we still need to register?

Yes! The baseline cost of $10 for Family Weekend registration is what gets your family the Family Weekend badges necessary to attend all the free events on campus. Each person in your group will receive a family weekend badge once the minimum is met. Additionally, all registered families will receive a bag, schedule, and a swag item for attending Family Weekend. In order to register for just the baseline cost, please select any $10 in tickets and make a note in the comments box that you don’t want to attend any paid events.

Is there a registration deadline?

We strongly encourage families to pre-register for Family Weekend as soon as they are able to as many paid events will reach capacity well in advance of Family Weekend. Pre-registration will close in the week leading up to the event in order to ensure all families packages are prepared. Families can register on the day of the event, however there is no guarantee for ticket availability at that time.

Do I include my student(s) or small children in my registration numbers?

Our general rule of thumb is if a person needs a seat at any event, they will also need a ticket. Students should absolutely be included in your registration numbers. If you have a small child that will sit on the lap of a family members at events, they will not need a ticket.

Can we attend without our student?

Yes. We know some families may have students with commitments throughout the day and may still want to attend events.

How do we make changes or update our families registration?

To add tickets in the amount of $10 or more, create an additional Family Weekend registration and note in the comments section of the form that you are adding tickets to your existing registration. Please use the same contact information as you did on the per-existing registration.
If you only need to add $5 worth of tickets, please register for $10 and make a note in the comments box to let us know you need a refund and only need 1 ticket.

How do I get on the waitlist for any events that are closed to registration? How do event waitlists work?

Please email Amanda at to be added to the waitlist. Families will be moved off the waitlist in the order they are added and by family size. This means that if you are a family of 6 and at the top of the waitlist and a family of 2 cancels, the next family of 2 will be offered registration first. If your family is moved off the waitlist, you will be contacted and will need to pay your balance at check-in.

What is the cost of Family Weekend?

Families must register for a minimum of $10 of tickets in order to receive the swag item and your family weekend pass to the free events.
Costs of events are as listed below (while availability lasts):
Lunch: $15 per attendee
City of Milwaukee Bus Tour: $5 per attendee
Planetarium Show: $5 per attendee
Comedy Sportz show: $5 per attendee
Admirals Game: $10 per attendee
Lakefront Bike Ride: $5 per attendee

I was not able to pay for my registration after completing the registration form. What should I do?

The best way to ensure your registration is finalized and your tickets have been reserved is to complete the registration process through the payment process. If you were unable to pay through the US Bank payment portal at the time of registration, simply re-submit your registration and complete the payment at that time. The Family Weekend registration team will see duplicate registrations and delete the unpaid registration.

Unfortunately, the registration team is unable to process payment for registrations after the fact, which is why it is necessary to re-register.

How do we get to campus?
Where and when do we check-in?

Saturday check-in will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Concourse (ground level) of the UWM Student Union, 2200 E Kenwood Blvd. All registrants will receive a Family Weekend Badge, UWM swag item and a welcome bag. You will receive your event tickets when you check-in.  If you are also walking or running the Panther Prowl, we encourage you to check-in after.

Can we check-in and pick up our materials before Saturday?

Yes! New for 2019, families may elect to have their student pick-up their registration materials, tickets, and swag item on Friday, October 11th in the Neighborhood Housing Office from 10am-3pm. Families will be asked to choose their pick-up date in late September. Anyone picking up materials on Friday will be asked to show a photo ID (students can use their student ID). Families who have a balance due are not able to pick-up materials early.

Parking and Transportation Information

Parking is available around campus, but we encourage families to park in the in the UWM Pavilion Parking Garage. Parking all day is $3. We discourage families from parking on the neighborhood streets surrounding the campus as parking regulations are heavily enforced.

Discount parking is available all day for $3 and can be paid at the meter, no special pass is needed. We encourage families to park in the Klotsche Parking Pavilion because some roads around campus may be closed for the Panther Prowl.

The Prowl Line is and will be available on Saturday, October 12th for Family Weekend. They only accept guests who posses guest passes, which you can obtain from Sandburg, with your student. The hours of the Prowl Line are 9am-3am.
Are we supposed to attend all the events?

Only if you want to. Family Weekend is designed to appeal to a variety of interests, so we offer different options. Choose the option that fits your family.

How does scheduling work for Family Weekend? Do we pick our time or are they assigned for us?

The Family Weekend registration team will build an individualized schedule for every family. If you have event time requests, please note that in the comments box at the end of the registration form. The Family Weekend registration team will do their best to accommodate any timing requests.

There are so many events, how do we choose?

We’ve created a jam-packed event schedule for families to ensure the fun never stops throughout your time on-campus and in the City of Milwaukee. Some families may choose to split up with parents going to the photo tour of Milwaukee and kids checking out the planetarium show. Others may want to attend events as a whole family, and there is no one way to do Family Weekend. If your family of 4 does choose to have 2 attend 1 event and 2 attend another, please note that on your registration form so the registration team can schedule accordingly.

Is there time for my family to participate in the Panther Prowl and attend all the Family Weekend paid events?

Yes! Many families choose to participate in the prowl and head over to check-in to receive their registration materials in the Union Concourse once they have completed the prowl.

We have special needs/dietary restrictions/mobility accommodations. Who should we contact?

The registration form includes requests for dietary accommodations and special needs. You can also contact with any questions. Please let us know if you will be bringing a stroller or a wheelchair so we may plan schedules accordingly as strollers and wheelchairs affect event capacities and we want to ensure you have a smooth experience at Family Weekend.

What is the guest pass policy in the University Housing residence halls during Family Weekend?

Guest passes are required to enter the residence halls and you must be with your student resident at all times in order to pass through security. Families are encouraged to register for guest passes prior to the day of Family Weekend to ensure easiest and fastest access into the residence halls on Family Weekend. After submitting completing pre-registration, stop by the Guest Registration desk in the lobby of Cambridge, RiverView, or Sandburg with your resident host to pick up your guest pass. I need a refund. Who should I contact?

Refunds may be granted before September 27th upon request via email. No refunds will be granted the week of, day of, or after the event. You can contact Amanda at with any questions. Refunds typically take 3-5 business days to process once the refund has been initiated by the Family Weekend team. You will be notified once the team has initiated your refund.
