Career Planning And Resource Center Ready To Support Recent And Soon-To-Be Grads
Is your student a recent UWM grad? Or is graduation on the horizon? It’s a great time for your student to take advantage of the resources at the UWM Career Planning and Resource Center (CPaRC), an office that helps Panthers during their college careers and beyond.
There is little question graduating from UWM is an exciting accomplishment. The CPaRC offers recent graduates a variety of services to support them in their job search, including search tools, resume and cover letter review, and mock interviewing. Recent and anticipated graduates also have access to a variety of tools on the CPaRC website, including the online job board PantherJobs, and access to any career fairs and CPaRC-sponsored educational programs and events.
Applying and interviewing for jobs can be very overwhelming and frustrating for many new grads. However, CPaRC can help make that process less daunting for your son or daughter. The staff in the office works with alumni to help prepare them with the tools and skills they need to make themselves marketable in their job search. Graduates within one year of graduation may use individual sessions up to six times.
During these visits, a career counselor can help your son or daughter with resume and cover letter writing and review. The career counselors work one-on-one with alumni to help them develop a resume and cover letter that highlights their skills, experiences, and accomplishments. Working with an experienced career counselor will allow your son or daughter to gain knowledge and expertise on how to stand out in the application and interview process.
The office also offers mock interview opportunities, where alumni may meet with a counselor for a simulated interview. Counselors will ask a variety of questions related to your son or daughter’s career goals, as well as common interview questions asked by interviewers. After the mock interview is complete, the counselor will give feedback as well as answer any questions the alumnus has. Mock interviews are a great way for recent or upcoming grads to practice and feel more comfortable with the interview process.
Throughout their job search, an alum may have questions regarding the application process, what career is right for them, or anything related to their search. Career counselors can answer any questions your son or daughter may have throughout this process.
There are also many online tools that UWM alum are able to access, including PantherJobs. PantherJobs is an online career tool students and alumni can access. Employers looking to hire UWM students or alumni will post their openings to the site. There is also a helpful resume builder and mock interview tool on PantherJobs. Alumni can connect to numerous employers at any of the career fairs held throughout the academic year.
The Career Planning & Resource Center has a wide variety of options and tools for recent UWM graduates so they can develop successful life-long plans in an evolving global world of work. The goal of the office is to give your son or daughter the tools they need to develop the confidence and skills necessary to support their job search and future careers.
