2016-2017 Financial Aid Application
The 2016-17 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available. If your son/daughter will be going to school between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017, now is the time to submit your 2016-17 FAFSA.
We encourage all students and parents to complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov. The FAFSA is a standardized application used to determine eligibility for federal grants, loans, and work-study funds from the federal government. In addition, UWM and the State of Wisconsin also use it when determining eligibility for institutional and state programs. Many funds are limited; so it’s extremely important that you file before March 1, 2016, the priority filing date to receive maximum consideration. Be sure to list UWM’s school code, 003896.
If your 2015 federal tax returns are not completed, you are encouraged to complete your FAFSA using estimated 2015 information. Once your taxes are filed with the IRS you should go back to your FAFSA and update your and your parents (if dependent) 2015 tax information. All students are highly encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer tax information to the FAFSA as it will reduce requests for additional information by the Financial Aid Office in the future.
Please keep in mind that students at any time can login to their PAWS account at https://paws.uwm.edu/ to check and see if any additional documents are needed to process an award. To ensure a financial aid award will be processed in early/mid-June, all additional documents should be submitted no later than May 1, 2016.
If you have financial aid questions, please make sure to visit the financial aid website, or call/email, so staff can assist with your questions.
