Join us as we listen to Kate Vieira, PhD, talk on “Poems for Peace: How a Colombian Community is Writing for Social Change.”
Wednesday, September 29th @ Noon
Room C101
“In this talk I share insights from Colombian writers, young people, and educators on writing’s potential for building peace. After the Colombian peace accords were signed to end decades of deadly armed conflict, violence has continued. Communities in Colombia, however, are imagining a different, more peaceful, future, through creating communities for literary expression. This talk, based on an ethnography conducted under the auspices of a Fulbright Faculty Fellowship in 2018, shares stories from Colombian writers about the power of the arts to address seemingly intractable social problems.”
