UWM Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble is comprised of 20 undergraduate and graduate students devoted to the study and performance of big band jazz and related styles of music arranged for this instrumentation. There is an emphasis on the musical canon composed and performed by original swing era luminaries Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, and Glenn Miller to mid- and late-20th century figures such as Gil Evans, Charles Mingus, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, and Toshiko Akiyoshi, to the greatest living composer and arranger of big band jazz, Maria Schneider. In addition, the ensemble serves as a vehicle for student arrangers and composers. Current band members, Luke Daniels and Eddy Magallanes, will each have arrangements performed this semester.
