Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series: Kim Cosier
- November 4, 2020
- 7:30pm - 9:00pm
- Online, Milwaukee, WI, United States
- Peck School of the Arts
Kim Cosier is a member of the Art Build Workers collective and is active in revolutionary movements in Milwaukee and beyond. Partnering with activist organizations such as Fight for $15, Youth Climate Action Team MKE, Leaders Igniting Transformation (LIT), local and national teachers’ unions, and Voces de la Frontera, this work is meant to amplify messaging and stir up creative trouble. The group collaborates with partners and other artists on messaging and design and then works with volunteers to create visually arresting banners, picket signs, face masks, parachute banners, and more to take to the streets. Cosier serves as Director of Community Engagement and is an art education professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. As an anti-racist, gender queer researcher and teacher, her work focuses on art and education for social justice, particularly related to intersecting cultural and social factors.
This lecture will be available as a pre-recorded virtual event. The link to the recording will be posted the following day at arts.uwm.edu/artistsnow.
