Previous bike riding experience is required. \nKletzsch Park in Milwaukee offers approximately 2.5 miles of mountain biking trails\, divided into two loops: Bog Loop: A scenic 1.2-mile trail through the park’s bog area\, featuring mature maple trees and a climb to the top of the sledding hill. Metro MTB River Glen Loop: A 1.3-mile riverside trail with twists and turns\, providing stunning views along the Milwaukee River. DESCRIPTION:Trip Dates: May 3\, 8 a.m. departure — May 4\, 1 p.m. return to campus \nThere’s something adventurous about biking to a state park! Join Outdoor Pursuits as we bike from campus\, along the Oak Leaf trail system\, all the way to Harrington Beach State Park on Lake Michigan’s shoreline. This bike ride is 38 miles (61 km) and requires you to know how to ride a bike. The best part of this ride is that you don’t have to carry your camping equipment. We’ll drive it to the state park for you so it’s there when you arrive. DESCRIPTION:SUMMARY: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor enthusiasts\, educators\, guides\, SAR team members\, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical\, including all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. The 5-day format requires students to undertake an increased amount of reading and homework before the classroom portion of the course. In exchange\, participants complete the course in much less time\, making it easier for those with busy schedules to attend. \nFor the UWM registration\, participants must be current UWM students\, faculty or staff. The general public registration is open to anyone 18 years or older. To select your registration group\, hover the cursor to the right of price listed\, then click select. \nParticipants must register and pay any remaining balances by Nov. 12 (45 days before course start date). Participants must complete all pre-course work prior to Dec. 27. \nCourse Details: Course hosted at UWM University Recreation (3409 N. Downer Ave.). Lodging is not provided for the duration of the course. Class runs 8 a.m.-6 p.m. every day\, with a lunch break and a kitchenette available to participants. All eligible participants who successfully complete the course will receive Wilderness Medical Associates® Wilderness First Responder\, Anaphylaxis\, and BLS/Healthcare Provider-level CPR certification. These certifications remain valid for three years. This certification can be used to challenge the DOT First Responder Exam\, which is at the discretion of the local or state EMS authorities. All teaching materials are provided by Wilderness Medical Associates International at no additional cost. DESCRIPTION:The Midwest Climbing Series is an annual circuit of seven climbing competitions held on University of Wisconsin and University of Minnesota campuses. The mission of MCS is to promote and support the growth of the collegiate Midwest climbing community by fostering connections and building relationships through collaborative efforts and the spirit of competition. \nThis competition will be held at Adventure Rock’s Walker’s Point location (613 S. 2nd St.\, Milwaukee). Adventure Rock stands as an industry leader in commercial climbing gyms in the Midwest and a staple of the Milwaukee climbing community with its three locations. This competition would not be possible without the support and partnership of Adventure Rock’s staff and facility. \nThis competition is bouldering only and open to all currently enrolled college students\, at any university. \nUWM Competition Schedule:\n9-10 a.m. Climber Check-In\n10-10:30 a.m. Rules\n10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Climbing\n1:30 p.m. Scorecards Due\n2-2:30 p.m. Awards \nIndividuals: Individual competitors will earn points at each competition and their top three scores will be counted toward their series total. There are three categories (beginner\, intermediate\, or advanced) in men’s and women’s divisions. Competitors will be placed blindly based on their total scores. \nTeams: The following criteria must be met to be considered a team:\n~Must be composed of at least 3 individuals\n~Members must be from the same organization (same school\, club\, gym etc.)\n~Must consist of at least one member of the opposite gender\n~Must consist of a maximum of 6 climbers per team. More than 6 climbers from each team can compete\, but only the 6 climbers listed on the pre-submitted roster will have their scores count toward the team.\n~Teams compete and score just like individuals do. Team scores will be composed of the top three scores from max 6 individuals on that team.\n~The top 3 comp scores from each team will be used to determine their series total. DESCRIPTION:Did you know that the Milwaukee area is one of the surfing capitals of the Midwest? Lake Michigan is great to learn how to surf and provides a practice ground for bigger water. This surfing class is geared toward first-time surfers who have never been on a board before. We will provide wetsuits\, surf boards\, instruction\, booties (if needed)\, and gloves (if needed). You will learn the beginner skills of how to “pop up\,” stand up\, and control a surfboard. Registration closes two days before the trip. DESCRIPTION:Experience Wisconsin’s famous peninsula\, Door County! We will be camping one night at Peninsula State Park\, known for its overlooks\, beaches\, and trails. On day two\, we’ll continue the journey with ferry rides to Rock Island for an overnight stay. Rock Island is only 6 miles (9.6 km) in diameter and is known for its historic lighthouse. All equipment\, transportation\, food\, and lodging are included in the price. All participants must attend a mandatory pre-trip meeting the week before. This trip is more expensive than other camping trips due to the cost of taking two ferry rides round trip. DESCRIPTION:Are you a Graduate or PhD student looking to get involved with Outdoor Pursuits? Outdoor Pursuits has joined forces with UWM’s Graduate School to offer a bike ride exclusively for graduate students. The bike ride covers 5-10 miles (8-16 km) of biking on city streets and trails. Previous biking experience is required. Bike rental\, helmet\, and lock are included\, but you are welcome to bring your own bike or a Bublr Bike. The trip will start at Outdoor Pursuits in the Klotsche Center. SUMMARY:Graduate School Bike Rides
DESCRIPTION:Are you a Graduate or PhD student looking to get involved with Outdoor Pursuits? Outdoor Pursuits has joined forces with UWM’s Graduate School to offer a bike ride exclusively for graduate students. The bike ride covers 5-10 miles (8-16 km) of biking on city streets and trails. Previous biking experience is required. Bike rental\, helmet\, and lock are included\, but you are welcome to bring your own bike or a Bublr Bike. The trip will start at Outdoor Pursuits in the Klotsche Center. Registration closes one day before the trip. \nSept. 10: Beach to Beach Ride: Join us as we bike north from the Klotsche Center to two local beaches\, Atwater Beach and Klode Park. There will be plenty of opportunities to bike on Milwaukee city streets and trails to get to our beachside destinations. \nSept. 19: Explore the Neighborhood Ride: We’ll use the Oak Leaf Trail and Milwaukee city streets to explore the Lower East Side neighborhood. DESCRIPTION:We’ve planned a full day of hiking! Outdoor Pursuits is headed to Ledge Park and the Horicon Marsh to learn more about the nearby wetlands and the history of the Niagara Escarpment\, a prominent geological feature that stretches over 700 miles (1\,100 kilometers) from New York through Ontario\, Canada\, and into the Midwest. It is a steep\, cliff-like ridge made up of sedimentary rock layers formed over hundreds of millions of years through various geological processes. All transportation and park passes are included.
