SUMMARY:Revolutionary Realism: Prints and Portraits after the Mexican Revolution
DESCRIPTION:“Revolutionary Realism: Prints and Portraits after the Mexican Revolution” explores the traditions of print and portraiture in 20th century Mexico and their influence in other Latin American countries. This exhibition examines the visual language of revolution\, labor and identity following the Mexican Revolution\, featuring works from Manuel Carrillo\, Leopoldo Méndez\, Diego Rivera\, Francisco Toledo and more. \nThis show was curated by the ARTHIST 704: Intro to Art Museum Studies II class\, this collaborative course teaches art history graduate students the methodologies and technologies of art museum work\, including collection management\, exhibition organization\, catalogue production and educational programming. \nThe exhibit is on view from Dec. 5 through to Feb. 20. \nOpening reception: \n\nDec. 5 from 5-7 p.m.\nRemarks will begin at 5:30 p.m.\n\nUWM Emile H. Boittin\, professor of global history\, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. \nAs part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Women’s & Gender Studies at UW-Milwaukee\, we are thrilled to host Jennifer A. Boittin\, a professor of global history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Boittin’s research focuses on questions of gender\, sexuality\, class and race in France and the French Antilles\, West Africa\, and Southeast Asia\, among other places. Boittin looks at migrations\, circulations\, radical politics\, and everyday existence in these regions. She is the author of “Undesirable: Passionate Mobility and Women’s Defiance of French Colonial Policing\,1919-1952” (University of Chicago Press\, 2020) and “Colonial Metropolis: The Urban Grounds of Anti-Imperialism and Feminism in Interwar Paris” (University of Nebraska Press\, 2010). \nA reception will follow the lecture. \n

SUMMARY:Wilderness First Responder
DESCRIPTION:SUMMARY: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor enthusiasts\, educators\, guides\, SAR team members\, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical\, including all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. The 5-day format requires students to undertake an increased amount of reading and homework before the classroom portion of the course. In exchange\, participants complete the course in much less time\, making it easier for those with busy schedules to attend. \nFor the UWM registration\, participants must be current UWM students\, faculty or staff. The general public registration is open to anyone 18 years or older. To select your registration group\, hover the cursor to the right of price listed\, then click select. \nParticipants must register and pay any remaining balances by Nov. 12 (45 days before course start date). Participants must complete all pre-course work prior to Dec. 27. \nCourse Details: Course hosted at UWM University Recreation (3409 N. Downer Ave.). Lodging is not provided for the duration of the course. Class runs 8 a.m.-6 p.m. every day\, with a lunch break and a kitchenette available to participants. All eligible participants who successfully complete the course will receive Wilderness Medical Associates® Wilderness First Responder\, Anaphylaxis\, and BLS/Healthcare Provider-level CPR certification. These certifications remain valid for three years. This certification can be used to challenge the DOT First Responder Exam\, which is at the discretion of the local or state EMS authorities. All teaching materials are provided by Wilderness Medical Associates International at no additional cost. This includes SOAP Notes\, our textbook\, Wilderness and Rescue Medicine\, and The Wilderness Medical Associates Field Guide.
