SUMMARY:Beyond Barriers: Ethics and Critical Perspectives on Reimagining Gender-Affirming Care in Times of Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Advances in gender-affirming care have been propelled by clinically relevant research\, expanded telehealth access and professional codes of ethics that obligate providers to deliver evidence-based care. Yet\, at the very moment of progress\, transgender people’s health is under siege. Institutional and structural barriers are leaving communities feeling abandoned\, even as individual clinicians push to uphold their ethical commitments in creative and nontraditional ways. This keynote offers ethics-informed critical perspectives on the current landscape of gender-affirming care\, asking how futures of care might be reimagined beyond traditional structures\, and what forms of resistance and resilience are required to sustain ethical practice in times of crisis.  \nHear the lecture in the UWM Student Union’s Alumni Fireside Lounge.
