Dr. Dor’s talk is entitled “Queering Screened Jewishness: Gendered Ethnic Performance in American Cinema.”

Throughout the history of film, representations of Jews and queers have been tied to discourses of social subversion. Looking at moments in the intersectional histories of queerness and Jewishness in American cinema, Gabriel Dor argues that we can see a radically queer potential to challenge dominant understandings of race and sex. Dor will show how Jews get gendered and racialized queerly, troubling hegemonic whiteness.
